Trick or Treat!

Since Harper LOVES her toy zebra so much,
we decided it would be the perfect costume for Halloween!
Mmmmmmm..... candy!
Hey Zebra!  I look just like you!
Trick or treating
Halloween sure is fun!!!

Reading, painting, baking cookies, harvesting corn and more!

This weekend, I decided to introduce Harper to finger-painting!
She was a bit apprehensive at first.
But after about 30 seconds, she decided it was fun!
Later that night, she wanted to do it again.
I talked her into a less messy option -- water colors!
We decided to bake some peanut butter cookies.
Harper was a big help-- when she wasn't eating all the cookie dough!
We decided to go to the Woodneath branch of the library.
They have a great children's area with lots of books, puzzles, and computers.
Harper LOVED playing on the computer!
We went to Uncle Neil's to help harvest the corn.
Harper was happy -- as long as she got to drive the combine!
Eventually, Grandpa brought her back so the boys could get the work done.
The weather was wonderful, so we played at the park too!

Carving the Pumpkin

This year, we decided to use the drill to make flowers on our pumpkin.
Harper loved helping Daddy with the drill.
She even liked scooping the goo from inside the pumpkin.
This stuff is slimy!
Harper worked hard to clean out the pumpkin.
Carving the pumpkin is really fun!
Harper is absolutely captivated by the glowing pumpkin.  She has been to
the front door to check on it at least 30 times in the past 10 minutes!

Speech Therapy

Harper has been having trouble with her allergies, so we've been stuck inside!
We've spent much of our time at various appointments.
Harper is still not speaking much, so we are moving forward with speech therapy.
First, we met with an ENT specialist for a hearing test.  Fortunately, Harper's hearing tested normal.  We had a speech therapy evaluation with First Steps.  We are waiting to see if Harper will qualify for speech therapy with them.  If so, they will transition her into the Early Childhood Intervention program with the Kearney school district when she turns 3.
Today, Harper had her final Hepatitis B injection so she is finally all caught up on her shots! No more shots until kindergarten!
This afternoon, we went to Children's Mercy for a speech therapy evaluation.  Harper tested at the level of a 12 month old for expressive speech -- so she definitely needs speech therapy.  They placed her on the waiting list and it should be about 4 months before there is an opening.  We decided to use First Steps (if Harper qualifies) and also our private insurance for speech therapy.  Also, we are going to privately hire a speech therapist out of pocket. We figure the more therapy she receives, the better.
Harper is right on target for her age in most other areas and even advanced in some areas. She knows all of her letters by sight and can always find the letter in our mess of refrigerator magnets when I ask her to find one.  They are in a big jumble, with some facing upside-down etc, and she is always able to find the "N" or "D" or whatever I ask her to find.
In between appointments, we've had some time for fun.
Dinner at Steak and Shake
Getting ready to shop at Oak Park Mall
Playing in her crib
Ready to go get our last immunization for a few years!

Pumpkin Patch

The weather was perfect today, so we headed out to find a pumpkin.
There is so much to do at Carolyn's Pumpkin Patch!
We fed some goats.
Harper drove a car
and a bus!
There were giant tubes to crawl through.
We climbed up in the big chair.
We fed the goats again.
We searched for a perfect pumpkin.
We had so much fun at the pumpkin patch!

A visit to the ear doctor and more time outside!

On Sunday, we tried out Shawn's anniversary present -- a new fishing boat.
Harper was really good and sat still during the ride.
Today we went to see an ear, nose and throat doctor.
Harper is still not speaking very much and we wanted to rule out
any kind of a physical problem that might be contributing to her speech delay.
Dr. Beuerlein did a hearing test and her hearing is normal.
Her tonsils are extremely large, but since she eats
and sleeps well we will not remove them at this time.
He removed some wax from her ears, which she did not like at all.
When we got home, we decided to go outside and enjoy the great weather!
We grilled burgers and ate outside, then went to play in the sandbox.

Harper found a caterpillar crawling on the driveway.
Needless to say, she was very excited!
When he would stop crawling, she would holler, "GO!"
